Compression Socks for Shin Splints

Shin splints usually show up as an ache along the inner edge of the shinbone, often when running, jumping or skating ramps up faster than your legs are ready for. Compression socks aren't a fix for that; easing back on training and getting advice from a healthcare provider come first. What a knee-high sock can add is a snug, supported feel through the calf and shin while you train.

Our socks use 15-20 mmHg graduated compression, firmest at the ankle and easing toward the knee, so the whole lower leg is covered in one layer. They also have built-in arch support and a cushioned footbed, and most styles use a moisture-wicking nylon and Lycra knit for sweaty sessions.

Pain that's sharp in one spot, hurts at rest or keeps getting worse needs a healthcare provider, not a new pair of socks.

Prefer a sleeve?

If you'd rather wear your own socks, the Compression Shin Sleeve wraps the calf and shin in knitted compression, adds neoprene padding over the front of the shin and leaves the foot free. More options live in our calf compression sleeves. For compression from the arch up, stick with socks: find your fit with the sizing guide and shop the full compression socks collection.

FAQs

Do compression socks help shin splints?

They're not a fix. Graduated compression gives the calf and shin a snug, supported feel, and some runners and athletes like wearing it while they train. Shin splints often come from ramping up activity too fast, so easing back and getting advice from a healthcare provider matter more than any sock.

Compression socks or a shin sleeve for shin splints?

A sock covers you from the foot to the knee in one layer, with arch support and a cushioned footbed built in. A shin sleeve covers only the calf and shin, so you wear your own socks, and ours adds neoprene padding over the shin. Pick the sock for full lower-leg coverage, or the sleeve if you want padding up front.

When should I see a healthcare provider about shin pain?

Get it checked if the pain is sharp in one spot, hurts when you're resting, comes with swelling, or keeps getting worse. Those can point to something more than shin splints. Compression socks aren't a way to push through pain like that.

Can I run in compression socks?

Yes. Our socks are knee-high with a moisture-wicking knit on most styles, and they're made to be worn while you move. Choose your size from the sizing guide so they stay up without digging in at the top.
