Finding Compression Socks for Wide Calves
With wide or muscular calves, the trouble with most compression socks is the top: a band that digs in, rolls down or leaves a groove by lunchtime. Getting it right comes down to size, and our size chart pairs your shoe size with ankle and calf measurements.
Measure, then choose
Wrap a soft tape around the widest part of your calf, then the widest part of your ankle, and compare both with the sizing guide along with your shoe size. If your calf and your shoe size point to different sizes, our customer service team can help you choose before you order.
Size ranges by style
Every style has the same 15-20 mmHg graduated compression, but the size range varies. Skulls, Blood Drip, Letters and the stripes run S to XXL. The Made in the USA Argyle, Solids and Checkers run S to XL. The LARB x Sam Hitz and Team Bolt come in S/M, L/XL and 2XL. Check the size options on the product page before you add to cart.
How it should feel
Firm at the ankle and a little lighter up top, with the cuff lying flat below the knee. If the top bites, bunches or leaves a deep mark, reach out to us about sizing. Need knee support that fits a bigger leg as well? See our plus size knee braces, or shop every pair in compression socks.
FAQs
Do Old Bones compression socks fit wide calves?
They can, as long as you choose your size by measurement. Measure the widest part of your calf and your ankle, then compare them, along with your shoe size, to our sizing guide. Several styles run up to XXL or 2XL.
How do I measure my calf for compression socks?
Use a soft tape measure around the widest part of your calf, then around the widest part of your ankle. Compare both, along with your shoe size, to the sizing guide.
What's the largest size available?
It depends on the style. Skulls, Blood Drip, Letters and the striped styles go up to XXL, the LARB x Sam Hitz and Team Bolt socks go up to 2XL, and the Made in the USA Argyle, Solids and Checkers top out at XL. The size options on each product page show what's available.
What if my calf and shoe size point to different sizes?
Contact our customer service team before you order and they can help you choose. A sock that's too small can dig in at the top, and one that's too big may not give you the full compression.
