Hiking Insoles for Long Days on the Trail

A hike loads your feet in ways a sidewalk doesn't. Roots and rocks tilt every step, descents push your heel forward in the boot and your toes toward the front, and a pack adds weight to all of it for hours. Most hiking boots put their effort into the outsole and upper and leave a thin foam liner inside.

The Shock Absorbing Foot Insoles are the trail pick. A molded TPU heel cup keeps your heel seated in the boot on uneven ground and downhills, the arch support gives your midfoot something to rest on, and PU memory foam softens rocky, hard-packed miles. With roughly 6mm under the heel, they take the stock liner's place without crowding the boot. For travel days and the walk around town afterward, the All Day Foot Insoles pair a contoured arch with EVA foam, and the 2-Pack covers both.

After a wet day, pull the insoles out so they and your boots dry separately. Knees feeling the descents? See our hiking knee braces, and our ankle sleeves for compression on rough ground.

FAQs

Do I need insoles for hiking boots?

Not always. If your boots feel good on long days, leave them be. If your arches tire, your heel slides on descents or the stock liner has packed flat, a replacement insole with a heel cup and arch support is an easy upgrade.

Should I size up my hiking boots for insoles?

Usually not. Pull the boot's own liner and put these in its place, and the fit changes very little; the Shock Absorbing pair runs roughly 6mm under the heel. Try them with the socks you actually hike in, because thick wool socks take up room too.

How do I break in new insoles before a big hike?

Wear them on shorter walks for a week or two before a long trail day, so you find any hot spots close to home. If the toe end bunches or the boot feels tight up front, trim a little at a time using the guidelines underneath.
