Your Knee Feels Like It Might Give Out. Here's What Actually Helped.

I'm Brandon. 40 years on a skateboard wrecked my knees, and now they've got receipts. They tell me every single day. Here's why that wobble happens, and the one thing that finally made mine feel secure again.

I built the sleeve I couldn't find. Brandon, founder, Old Bones Therapy.

What actually keeps a knee stable

You saw the short version. Here is the full breakdown. Your knee stays stable through three things: the ligaments, the muscle around it, and a quiet sense your body has of exactly where the joint is in space. Decades of slams, bails, and hard landings wear that down. So the knee starts to feel like it might give out, going down stairs, on uneven ground, or dropping into a bowl. That wobble is not in your head. It is your knee that lost its backup.

Why the usual fixes fall short

I tried everything. Bulky braces that got in the way the second I started moving. Neoprene sleeves that felt like a sweaty sock an hour in. Cheap wraps that slid down after ten minutes. None of it was made for someone who actually skates, rides, or works on their feet. One customer summed it up: the brace he wore before would have wrecked his knee in a try or two. All it gave you was warmth and not much else. Never the secure, held-together feeling your knee is actually asking for.

The approach that helped mine

So I built the opposite. A firm, graduated-compression knitted sleeve, breathable enough to wear all day. Not neoprene, but real compression that helps your knee feel more aware of where it is. A silicone gel cradles the kneecap so it tracks straight, and the knit grips your pads so they sit tight instead of sliding down. A knee brace that feels secure instead of unpredictable, with no stiff, rigid bulk. It never gets in the way of what you love, whether that is skating, riding, hiking, or a long day on your feet. That is the OG Compression Knee Sleeve.

What to expect

  1. Day 1

    Secure from the first session

Many people feel it the moment they put it on. Firm compression that holds the knee steady without getting in the way of moving.

  2. Week 1

    Part of the routine

Most people stop thinking about it and just wear it. Many tell us their knee feels more secure and less unpredictable day to day.

  3. Week 2-4

    Back in your sessions

With regular wear, riders tell us they push a little harder and second-guess the knee a little less.

  4. Month 2+

    Just part of the kit

The thing you reach for before you skate, ride, or head out. Made to keep you doing what you love, longer.

Common questions

Why does my knee feel like it might give out?
Your knee stays stable through three things: the ligaments, the muscle around it, and your body's sense of exactly where the joint is in space. Years of impact wear that down, so the knee can start to feel unstable going down stairs or on uneven ground. Firm knitted compression helps support the joint and your sense of where it is. Supportive wear, not a medical device.
Does it stay put, or slide down like a velcro brace?
There is no velcro. It is a knitted compression sleeve that stays where you put it, so you can wear it for hours without stopping to yank it back up.
Can I skate, ride, or train in it all day?
Yes. It is built for all-day wear. Plenty of skaters wear theirs for multiple-hour sessions, and it layers under pads.
How do I pick a size, and what if my legs are larger?
Measure around your leg and match the size chart on the product page. Compression fits differently than clothing sizes. If you have larger thighs, Big Bones is built for exactly that.
How do I wash it?
Gentle cold wash and hang to dry, no dryer. It comes back soft and holds its compression. A lot of people keep a second pair so there is always one ready while the other is in the wash.

Your knees took the hits. They don't have to keep you off the board.

Bonus Footage

You made it to the bottom. Respect.

So here's a little something extra. I sat down with FFEJ at the same table from the video up top. He rode for Santa Cruz Skateboards back in the '80s, he's a close friend who tried the very first OG samples, and he came on board when we finally graduated from shipping orders out of my house to a real warehouse. We get into where the OG Knee Sleeve came from, why knitted smokes those old neoprene gaskets, and the guy who's still skating his original pair eight years later.
