"I have mid / neutral arches but have only skated flat insoles thus far. After pinpointing my Achilles pain to the underside of my foot, I thought that maybe I needed some more support. These insoles fit perfectly into my New Balance 440s (not too slim / not too wide) and have significantly decreased my Achilles and foot soreness. Thanks Old Bones!"

"Most of the major tendons & ligaments in my right ankle are partially torn, and these insoles reduced my pain by at least 80%."

Insoles for Achilles Tendonitis: Support Under the Heel

The Achilles tendon connects your calf muscles to the back of your heel bone. It's loaded on every step and hardest when you run, jump or climb stairs, which is why runners, court athletes and people on their feet all day tend to feel it first: stiffness at the back of the heel in the morning, or an ache that builds with activity.

An insole won't fix the tendon. What it changes is what's under your foot: a cupped, cushioned heel instead of flat foam, and a shaped arch instead of a flat footbed. Rehab and guidance from a healthcare provider or physical therapist do the real work. An insole just makes your shoes a more comfortable place to be while that happens.

Which Pair Fits Your Day

For active days, the Shock Absorbing Foot Insoles have a molded TPU heel cup that cradles the heel and PU memory foam that softens each heel strike, with a molded arch support underneath. For long days of walking and standing, the All Day Foot Insoles give you a contoured, orthopedic-grade arch with EVA foam cushioning.

Insoles, Orthotics and Heel Lifts

These are off-the-shelf insoles, sized by shoe size and trimmed to fit. They aren't custom orthotics, and they aren't heel lifts. If your healthcare provider recommends a heel lift, custom orthotics or a walking boot, that's their call. And if the pain started with a pop, or you can't push up onto your toes, get it checked before relying on any insole.

After activity, the Ankle Ice Sleeve wraps cold therapy and compression all the way around the ankle. Pain on the bottom of the heel instead? See insoles for heel pain, or browse every pair on our orthotic insoles page.

FAQs

What insoles are good for Achilles tendonitis?

Many people look for a cupped heel, cushioning under the heel and arch support. Our Shock Absorbing Foot Insoles have a molded TPU heel cup and arch support under a PU memory foam footbed. If a healthcare provider has suggested a heel lift or a specific orthotic, follow that advice instead.

Do orthotics help Achilles tendonitis?

Some people find supportive footwear and insoles more comfortable while the tendon settles, but whether an orthotic helps depends on your foot and what's behind the pain. Custom orthotics are a healthcare provider's call. Ours are off-the-shelf insoles sized by shoe size, not custom-molded orthotics.

Does arch support help with Achilles tendonitis?

Arch support changes how your foot sits in the shoe and spreads pressure across more of the sole. Whether that makes a difference for your Achilles depends on your foot mechanics, which a healthcare provider or physical therapist can assess. Think of an insole as one part of the plan, not the plan.

When should I see someone instead of trying insoles?

If the pain started with a pop or a sudden sharp hit at the back of the heel, if you can't push up onto your toes, or if there's significant swelling, see a healthcare provider promptly. The same goes for pain that keeps getting worse after a couple of weeks of easing off.
